We recommend booking 3–6 months in advance for most tours, and 6–12 months for the Naadam Festival (July), which sells out every year. Eagle Hunting tours in winter are also in high demand and fill quickly. That said, if you have a spontaneous window, contact us — we may be able to accommodate you on shorter notice depending on availability.
A deposit of 30% of the tour price is required to confirm your booking. The remaining 70% is due 60 days before your departure date. For bookings made within 60 days of departure, full payment is required at the time of booking. We accept international bank transfer, Wise, and major credit cards.
Cancellations made 90+ days before departure: full refund minus a €150 admin fee. 60–89 days: 70% refund. 30–59 days: 40% refund. Under 30 days: no refund. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes cancellation cover. In cases of genuine emergency, we will work with you to reschedule your tour.
Absolutely — this is our speciality. Every tour we design is bespoke. The itineraries on our website are starting frameworks, not fixed programmes. You can extend, shorten, combine tours, adjust the pace, add photography days, or include specific cultural experiences. Tell us your vision and we will build around it.
All our tours are fully private — you will never share your guide or vehicle with strangers. Our maximum group sizes are for your own travelling party only. We do not operate scheduled group departures. This is central to the Deep Mongolia experience.
Practical Travel
Citizens of 62 countries can visit Mongolia visa-free for stays of up to 30 days, including EU countries, USA, UK, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and most Gulf states. Other nationalities require a visa, available through Mongolian embassies or an e-visa online. We can advise on the process for your specific nationality — just ask us.
Mongolia uses the Mongolian Tögrög (MNT). Credit cards are accepted in Ulaanbaatar hotels, restaurants and some shops. Outside the capital, cash is essential. USD is the most practical foreign currency to bring. ATMs are available in UB and major towns. We recommend bringing sufficient USD and exchanging at banks on arrival for the best rates.
June–September is peak season — warm, green, and perfect for horse trekking and nomadic experiences. July is Naadam Festival month. October–February is ideal for the Eagle Hunting tour — cold but extraordinarily atmospheric. Spring (April–May) is beautiful but unpredictable. Each season in Mongolia offers a completely different experience.
Ulaanbaatar's Chinggis Khan International Airport (UBN) is served by direct flights from Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Moscow, Istanbul, Frankfurt, and several other hubs. MIAT Mongolian Airlines, Air China, Korean Air, and Turkish Airlines are the main carriers. From Europe, connections via Beijing or Seoul are most common. We provide full arrival and departure coordination.
We send all confirmed guests a detailed packing list tailored to their specific tour. General essentials include: layered clothing (temperatures swing dramatically between day and night), sturdy walking shoes, a quality down jacket even in summer, sun protection, a torch, and a good camera. For horse trekking, proper riding trousers are recommended. For winter/eagle tours, expedition-grade cold weather gear is essential.
About Our Tours
It varies by tour. Cultural, Gobi, and Nomadic tours require only a moderate level of fitness — mostly light walking. Horse Trekking requires reasonable physical fitness and the ability to sit in a saddle for 4–8 hours per day. Eagle Hunting involves riding and walking in cold conditions. We discuss fitness requirements during booking and tailor pacing accordingly.
In Ulaanbaatar: premium hotels. In the countryside: premium ger (yurt) camps with proper beds, quality linen, heating, and en-suite or shared bathroom facilities depending on location. Some remote nights involve traditional nomadic gers with the host family — this is always clearly described in the itinerary. We never compromise on comfort.
Yes, and we encourage it. Some of our most memorable itineraries combine 2–3 tours — for example, the Gobi Desert paired with the Cultural Tour for a 17-day journey, or Horse Trekking followed by a Nomadic Experience. We offer a 10% discount on combined tours of 14 days or more. Contact us to discuss combinations.
Yes — Mongolia is a wonderful destination for families. We recommend the Nomadic Life, Cultural and Naadam Festival tours for families with children aged 10+. The Horse Trekking tour is suitable for children 12+ with some riding experience. The Eagle Hunting and extended Gobi tours are better suited for older children and adults. We adapt all itineraries for family groups.
All our guides speak fluent English. We also have specialist guides for German, French, Japanese, and Russian-speaking guests. Please specify your preferred language when enquiring and we will assign the most appropriate guide for your journey.
Health & Safety
Travel insurance is compulsory for all guests. Your policy must cover medical evacuation, hospitalisation, and trip cancellation. We recommend policies that include emergency helicopter evacuation cover, as some remote tour locations are far from medical facilities. We can recommend reputable insurers upon request.
Mongolia requires no mandatory vaccinations for entry. Recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, and Rabies (if working with animals). Ensure your routine vaccinations (tetanus, MMR) are up to date. We always recommend consulting a travel medicine specialist 6–8 weeks before departure for the most current advice.
All our guides are trained in wilderness first aid and carry comprehensive medical kits. Our vehicles carry satellite communication devices for emergencies. In case of serious medical need, we coordinate with Ulaanbaatar's SOS Medica clinic (the premier international clinic in Mongolia) for evacuation. We have never had a medical emergency we could not manage effectively.
Mongolia is considered a very safe destination for international travellers. Violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. The main risks in the countryside are weather-related — sudden storms and extreme cold. Travelling with a private guide as our guests do essentially eliminates risk, as your guide is your local safety net at all times. Ulaanbaatar requires the same urban awareness as any capital city.
Please inform us of any dietary requirements during booking — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, and allergy-related needs can all be accommodated. Traditional Mongolian nomadic cuisine is heavily meat and dairy-based, but our camp cooks are experienced in preparing excellent alternative meals. We will never leave you hungry or restricted.
