About This Journey

A Shift in How You See the World

Our nomadic host families are long-standing partners who genuinely welcome visitors into their lives — not performers who act out traditions for cameras. You will visit their seasonal camps, help with real daily tasks, share real meals, and hear real stories passed down through generations.

The Nomadic Life Experience is the tour our guests remember most deeply — not for any single spectacular moment, but for a quiet, profound shift in their understanding of home, land, and what it means to be human.

"I arrived as a tourist. I left as a student of life."

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Ulaanbaatar Departure
Your guide picks you up from your hotel. A brief city orientation and cultural briefing on nomadic life before heading east. The drive to Terelj takes about one hour — a perfect warm-up as the city gives way to open steppe and granite mountains.
Day 2
Terelj National Park · Visit Nomadic Family
Arrive at Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and visit your first nomadic host family, camped among the dramatic rock formations and green valleys of the park. Help with the morning herding, learn to make airag (fermented mare's milk), try your hand at archery on the open meadow. Overnight at a premium ger camp nearby.
Day 3
Mini Gobi · Visit Nomadic Family
Drive south into the striking landscape of the "Mini Gobi" — sand dunes, rocky desert steppe and wide open sky that captures the soul of the Gobi without the long journey south. Visit a nomadic family living in this harsher, drier terrain. Experience the resilience and warmth of desert nomads — their way of life is entirely adapted to this unforgiving landscape. Overnight at a comfortable ger camp.
Day 4
Tövkhön Monastery · Orkhon Waterfall · Visit Nomadic Family
Drive west into the Khangai region. Climb to Tövkhön Monastery — the sacred hermitage of the great Zanabazar, perched on a forested volcanic peak. Continue to the Orkhon Waterfall, where the river plunges through a lava canyon in a dramatic cascade. Visit a nomadic family camped along the Orkhon River valley. Share a fireside dinner and listen to stories before retiring to your ger camp.
Day 5
Kharkhorin City · Visit Nomadic Family
Explore Kharkhorin — site of the ancient Mongol capital Karakorum. Visit the Kharkhorin Museum and the walls of Erdene Zuu Monastery, built from Karakorum's own stones in 1586. In the afternoon, visit a nomadic family living on the steppe near the ancient capital. Their ancestors have herded these same grasslands for centuries. Traditional evening meal and overnight at a local ger camp.
Day 6
Return to Ulaanbaatar
A final morning on the open steppe before the drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Arrive in the capital by late afternoon. Farewell dinner with your guide — a celebration of five days lived as a guest of Mongolia's nomadic families, from mountain park to desert, river valley to ancient capital.
